SPACECRAFT UNLTD Sculptures

SPACECRAFT is an intervention into street wire art production in Southern Africa, in collaboration with wire artists. It is inspired by two observations: the similarity between wire art and old-school computer renderings of 3D ‘wire frame’ (informed by childhood experience playing the first Star Wars arcade game in the 1980s) and the existing practices of wire artists in reproducing pop cultural icons as wire art (such as cars from the movie Cars, or the clown fish from Finding Nemo). These pop cultural scifi icons are made with master wire artists who have uncommon skills at shaping galvanised steel wire into complex forms.
